Should Security be Outsourced?

Posted March 25, 2009 7:22 AM

Making headlines these days are companies that are canceling contracts with third-party IT security providers. In an effort to cut costs and save jobs, this move may make sense. Some firms are taking a hybrid approach by outsourcing only parts of IT security and taking control of the rest. Can in-house staff protect their companies well enough from corporate threats, as well as those outside the company's perimeter? Or, are IT security specialists better equipped to protect system networks?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Wireless Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Wireless Technology today.

Keep it in house !

Getting a private security job would be an easy way to get into a compnay to steal information.

Yes keep it in house and mandate an IT security training protocol for all employees.

I am Chinese, I think out-sourcing the security is a new global fad, you American don't make too much fuss for this.

I believe one day the PRC will undertake the role to protect the Pentagon on the behalf of American people, which will relieve greatly the burden of US financial department and defence department, since our wages of soldier is just 1/10 of US compeer.

Just imagining that scenarios...
