Is privacy an issue when it comes to the latest computerized electronics?

Posted April 05, 2009 7:08 AM

Do you approve or disapprove of unwanted solicitations for products and services on your cell phone via voice or text messaging? What about ads for businesses sent to you when your GPS position indicates you are nearby? British citizens are not too happy having been spotted in 25 U.K. cities on Google Street View. What do you think?

All I know is that if I hear: "This is the second notice (4000 times), that the warrenty on your car is about to expire"; I am going to reach through the phone, choke that voice, and her little dialer too!

Here in Germany its a problem with "Cold Callers" phoning even at weekends. I have an Answering Machine that answers the phone ALWAYS. I can also see if there is a number displayed (Caller ID) I answer.

If Anonymous is displayed, I do not answer at all. My message says that we do not answer anonymous calls, ever.....

If it is something/someone important who does not send his ID, he can leave a message, that happens very seldom as what the companies are doing is illegal and they know it!!!

At weekends, till recently, I would answer as it was usually a friend, but these companies have taken to ringing at weekends too, they get told to "go away in short sharp jerks".....or F.O.......

The German law forbids recording a conversation without first informing the caller, then they just ring off instantly, that was my old trick......but the answering machine trick is better.....

I called my cell phone service provider and had text messaging blocked from my phone. When I start getting calls on my cell from sales promoters, the cell phone will be history. I refuse to be interrupted and imposed upon by these arrogant people.

As to the unwanted calls concerning auto warranties, I have found that a complaint to the Better Business Bureau works wonders. No more calls or letters!!
