A California company that builds networking products recently launched what it calls a 'green' managed Ethernet switch. The company claims the switch reduces power by up to 45% on channels that aren't being used, and only turns on the 'smart fan' when the temperature rises above 95 F (35 C). Is this a 'green gimmick' — an attempt to differentiate itself in a highly competitive sales field? Or are there some real environmental benefits?
