Can Transistor Chameleon Unseat OLEDs?

A recent article and video demonstrate how scientists have developed a transistor which allows for the color shifting of practically any surface. Will this technology present itself as a formidable opponent to existing technologies such as organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and electronic paper (e-paper)? What would be the best applications for the new transistor?
