Stop Swine Flu and Other Ailments

Posted June 12, 2009 7:14 AM

Is the swine flu transmutable via your office building's HVAC system? As HVAC engineers and contractors are acutely aware, many varieties of colds and flu bugs are transmitted throughout entire office buildings. Rooms, corridors, common areas, and restrooms are connected via an intricate series of ductwork which is constantly pushing air. Too often the stale air isn't properly ventilated out. Loyal workers feel it their duty to show up for work even when sick. Infected people should be home, properly isolating themselves from other non-infected people.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from HVAC, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to HVAC today.

No HVAC here. The window's open, though!

I had heard, and don't know if this is completely true but, it can only be transfered from one person to another via contact. Such as someone with the virus touching a table, then another person touching the table and touching their face. Can anyone else verify this?

According to what I have been reading, airborne is an important route of transmission as well. So hand washing alone is not enough. If the virus is airborne, it stands to reason the HVAC can be blowing it around, unless there is a filter somewhere in the system to sterilize the air that's pulled through.

In the USA afaik, employers have been invited to get in on stockpiling Tamiflu in advance. That way, when flu hits the office they can get people started on treatment right away. I know, I know, post the link - I don't have it handy. Try the HSS or CDC pandemic pages. Ask your boss if this plan is in swing or not. Or if you're the employer - check it out.

Yes. I agree with you entirely. It is transmitted from person to person through contact either through contact, touching and /or sneezing. Main precautions that need to be taken are washing hands very often, wearing mask and keeping a distance of at least one metre from the infected person.

Althought I am not an expert on the swine flu I think the answer to your question is yes. A recently article stated that the indoor air quality of most building is more damaging that found outdoors. Mold, mildew and fungi of all sorts love the environment found in air ducts. There are companies that provide the equipment to clean and able install additional sanitizers into the duct work. You might take a look at UV lighting devices, ozone foggers and chlorine dioxide gas equipment. A thought we have considered is the use of antiviral oils such as lemon to treat the duck work. I heard of an airline that used eucalyptus oil in their air system. It always boils down to cost vs. benefit.

And with all the talk of bird and swine flu and vaccinations we often forget there are some natural treatments that can help. Nothing is better than a strong immune system, but this is certainly a long range goal. Isolating ourselves tends to be a futile effort but there are some natural therapies that can help.

Although there are several types of influenza, all are airborne and most frequently transmitted by droplets (coughing, sneezing, kissing and sharing drinking glasses etc.)

As with all viral infections it is important to begin treatment right away. Here are a few tips that can minimize the length of time and the discomfort of the flu.

Take an enema at the first symptom. It is important to keep the bowels clean and open and to reduce the fever. For a fever take a catnip enema. Steep 1 teaspoon of catnip in two liters of hot water. Let it cool, strain and add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoons of Lobelia tincture. Do this several times throughout the day until the fever drops.

Drink water! Drink at least 10 glasses, even when you do not feel like drinking water.

Take 1,000mg of vitamin C and 15mg of zinc three times a day.

Goldenseal and Echinacea can help prevent bacterial pneumonia.

Drink plenty of fluids such as fruit juices, carrot juice, green & yellow vegetable juices. Remember fresh is always best. Invest in a juicer.

Diffuse or spray your living space with an essential oil such as eucalyptus, pine, lavender or lemon. This is a very a effective air treatment. Eucalyptus of the polybractea variety such as V-VAX is excellent. Spray on a clean tissue and inhale for 30 seconds as a nasal inhalant to keep the air passages clear.

A good vaporizing salve such as Skinner's can help relieve symptoms. It is formulated from menthol crystals, menthyl salicylate, fir needle oil, eucalyptus oil and camphor oil. It can help clear the sinus passages.

Boil a 5-inch piece of fresh ginger in 2 cups of water for about 5 minutes. Drink a cup every 2-3 hours. It will relieve nasal congestion, improve blood flow, help eliminate chills and aches, and reduce sore throat pain.

Water therapy has a lot of potential to relieve symptoms. Take a 5-minute hot shower. Quickly dry off. Then place a large towel in cold water, wring it out and wrap it around your body from you arm pits to your thighs. Put plastic around the towel. Crawl into bed under a wool blanket and stay there for 20 minutes or until warmed. Do this 1-2 times a day. This should only be done with assistance.

Eat raw garlic. It is one of nature's best tools in the battle against the flu.

What is the difference in treating bird flu and swine flu? For bird flu you need a tweetment and for the swine flu you need an oinkment. Just a little humor.

Indoor air quality control doesnt lack the products being available to enhance the issue it lacks the willingness to purchase them.Poor system maintenence is the culprit usually

After the enema and eat raw Garlic, I guess a little humor would be in order.

The person that shows up after eating the raw garlic in our office will likely find his desk moved outdoors, which makes that HVAC duct paranoia a moot point.

"Take an enema at the first symptom". Honestly, I don't believe there's a shred of scientific evidence to support this.

The flu is airborne and enters through your mouth, eyes, nose, lung surfaces.. Taking steps to kill the virus in these areas (or systemically) is the first thing to do; treating inflammation is the second. Antiviral treatment is best if started "at the first symptom" or ASAP, and regular dosing until all symptoms subside, by clinical and scientific publications on effective flu treatment.

Not shoving it up your #$@%. Sorry, Pure and Simple.

Ahhh, I see the error in my thinking, To me ar$e would not need to be rendered in symbols, as the included R sanitize it up from being a three letter word...

There is an abundance of information on the effectiveness of hydrotherapy. In hydrotherapy irrigation (enema and colonic) are therapies for cleansing the body of toxins (a good idea).

Certainly an enema does not address the issue of anything that is airborne and enters the mouth, nose etc. It is only a portion of a treatment. It does however assist the recovery process once an illness occurs. The body primarily eliminates waste through the bowel, bladder, skin and lungs. When a person is ill, he or she has far more toxic waste than normal; and the kidneys (cleansed by drinking pure water), the bowel (cleansed by enemas or colonies), the skin (cleansed by bathing) and the lungs (cleansed by fresh air) are very important in the disposing of the waste matter. Of these, the largest amount of wastes will be discharged through the urine (kidneys and bladder) and feces (bowel and large intestines). An enema or colonic can be of great help in daiding the body in throwing off these excess body waste.

In years past folks relied on home remedies and less on the pharmaceutical industry.

No offense intended to the home remedies. I don't use pharmaceuticals myself: I make my own natural products. But I try to keep it scientific. I'm a bit fussy about the quality of my consent.

There is a rational basis for antiviral treatment of viral infections, whether the antiviral is a natural substance or a drug.

Hydrotherapy may be great for some people or some conditions: it just doesn't have any specific relevance to treatment for influenza. It might not even be the best thing for every person with flu, to attempt such ablutions. And maybe a waste of precious time when there is treatment they really should be doing without delay.

I did a search on PubMed, I tried "enema influenza" "hydrotherapy influenza" and even "colonic irrigation influenza" and I found not one peer reviewed article or report on such a treatment. Perhaps you should publish your research?

This article is very interesting. There is a way to help eliminate other diseases from circulating around your home and/or business such as the Bryant Perfect Air Purifier. Check out this blog for more information: http://www.flamefurnace.com/blog/?p=297

I assume this is a HEPA filter. The free standing machines of various sizes are ok for an enclosed space - a room of a specified size, and like this one are reported to eliminate airborne virus and other pathogens as well as particulates.

If HEPA filters can be installed in the air conditioning system for a building, why not.

I think that what can prevent the disease transmittance is the anti-bacterial filter howewer if you'd like to know more about it please visit http://www.aircoolcalifornia.com
