Are Millennials Really That Different?

Posted June 16, 2009 7:58 AM

A recent editorial titled 'The Wired Utility Meets the Wired Generation' speculated on how Millennials, those born between 1978 and 1995, will embrace the Smart Grid. Millennials, the editorial opined, are quick to embrace new technology, and, when it comes to the environment, Millennials not only talk the talk, but walk the walk. According to the editorial, Millennials are willing to pay more for environmentally-friendly products. Does this jibe with your experience? What's your organization doing to serve their Millennial customers?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Wire & Cable Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Wire & Cable Technology today.

lol...my kids will not pay more for a "green" product, they do bust their butts to own and drive a V8 supercar and the only "new technology" they are quick to snap up are the latest mobile phones...cause the advertising was cool and their mates have the same phone.

On the other hand, us old farts born before 1978 buy "green" products because we can afford it and want our offspring to have a future, we buy small cars cause our balls were that big when we were younger but now droop past our knee caps...so any amount of "my balls are bigger than yours" will only cause our nuts to drag on the ground....mobile phones are used for their intended purpose and no amount of marketing will cloud our intelligence and sense of reasoning to purchase something we do not need.

Guess the old farts are not the self centered consumerist "me" generation of today...something aptly missed in the quoted editorial content.
