Do You Know How Black Boxes Work?

Posted June 17, 2009 7:11 AM

With the tragedy of Air France Flight 447 still fresh in our memory, you may want to know how the aircraft's black box works and how information can be retrieved, should it ever be recovered from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. The Howstuffworks article provides details on recording and storage components, describes the move to solid-state technology, and discusses aspects of the various recorders. What technology advances can we expect for black boxes? What changes to the black box's design can we expect in light of the latest airline disaster? The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Electronic Product Design, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Electronic Product Design today.
