Former GM Plant to Host New Car Company

Posted June 24, 2009 4:55 PM by CarDomain

Has T. Boone Pickens bitten off more than he can chew? The legendary Texas oilman and investor is a major backer of V-Vehicles, an automotive startup that will take over a closed GM plant in Louisiana. V-Vehicles will renovate the former Guide headlamp facility in Monroe, which made headlights for GM cars and trucks. According to the Louisiana Economic Development Web Site, almost 1500 jobs will be created.

T. Boone Pickens is famous for his TV ads calling for a shift toward wind energy for electricity and natural gas for cars. V-Vehicles has not said if it will use natural gas instead of gasoline in its future vehicles, however.

I think he is going about it the right way. At most, a standard gasoline engine can be converted to NG or LP by simply hardening the valves. Fuel delivery system changes are inconsequential.

Mealer Companies LLC expects to be doing the same, I just wish T Boone would have taken us up on our projects and plan since we already have the details hammered out! New investors are hard to come by these days and the last big break of a funding company for the Mealer Auto plan went out of business during the third round of Barney Frank's banking crisis.

When does our T Boone Pickens financing plan begin?

We can do this at a fraction of the cost of V-Motors and we have breakthrough engineering and disruptive technology that will not be beat.

Cross you fingers!

Its not only design and turning out a car people want to buy.

its environmental impact, unions probably the biggest hurdle. logistics, dealerships.

DeLorean and Tucker comes to mind, Tucker had a great design ahead of his time, and DMC had some inventive and innovative designs, but too much going against him.

But you need more than innovation. You need buyers of these vehicles. Good marketing strategym for one. And a strategy that delivers, not like the Edsel.

The car industry is struggling, and that may be one thing Pickens has going for him.
