The iPhone is a technological marvel filled with innovative electronics, but its open source software model drives its sales. Apple lets any and all developers create applications for the iPhone, and they then make these applications available to the millions of iPhone owners. Successful apps rise to the top, and Apple sells ever more iPhones. Will open source application development be the key to success for future consumer electronic products?

Look what IBM did with their pc. We have, now, PC's for $200 and Apple for $1500. It seems that Jobs has learnt something in 30 years about open source...
