As a psych RN I deal with many demented patients, and have seen it in my own grandmother and three aunts. I can see a role for anthropomorphic robots as companions for advanced dementia patients. At least it would be worth a try. Dementia can be very lonely, since few people can devote the time and attention that would be ideal for such patients. The robots could be programmed with familiar names and voices. They could be programmed to ask and answer questions, talk about old times, provide solace etc. There would be a lot of rejection of such robots, but they might be welcome to others.
