Re: Can You Help Identify This Resistor?

Hey Bob,

I wondered from the part number if you had a zenith. This is your problem. Zenith NEVER has wanted anyone to fix their TV's to componet level. So the number on your transistor has a zenith number on it. 264-1c is actually 121-264-01 (or just -1). You used to could cross these numbers in ECG or NTE. But not anymore. The M538 means its a motorola part (probably M538001c) but how to use that number to convert it to a generic I have no idea and neither of them cross to NTE.

If you really want to fix this set I would recommend changing the module. That is what Zenith wants you to do. The main module number is 9-1538. You should look for a small white sticker on the main PCB (sometimes on the CRT has well) to verify I am right but it will be a 9-15XX-XX type number. The new module will make the TV basically a NEW TV it comes with everything except the CRT, Speakers, and the little Keypad PCB for the front switches.

I did a quick check on line and the boards are bout 120 bucks with probly a $30 core or somthing like that.

From the componet location (if I had to guess) its in the Switch Mode Power Supply (smps) and if that is the case and its burnt up. I would just change the module.

Never trade time for parts! You could spend hours going to componet level and unless you buy a SAMS for the TV your SOL because Zenith prints are basically block diagrams. You can change the module in about 15 mins. and generally there are few if any adjustments that need to be done (focus, G2, color balance, etc..) and they are pretty easy to do.

Good luck. I hope I have helped. (not good news but some answers at least)
