Look at the Tata air car.

They have already done much of the work.

In compressed air powered car what is the operating pressure and capacity of air storage cylinder?.

You will need compressed air storage, air motor drive shaft to prop or alternative drive mechanism.

Start with where the air comes from. Always good to know where you get food for the horses.

I'd also include a waste oil management. At least think about where the exhaust air goes and what happens to the oil.

A good place to begin is deciding on the specific purpose(s) to be served by the boat/project. Formalize that into well defined goals that can be measured. Review these goals with your mentors/instructors.

The term "air operated motor boat" has at least three possible meanings:

1) An air (or other compressed gas) motor driving a propeller in the water,
2) A fairly large fan propelling the boat, and
3) A hovercraft.

Which of these do you have in mind (or maybe yet another option)?

2) A fairly large fan propelling the boat, and
3) A hovercraft.

4) A jet ski. However, it is unlikely to be any more/less efficient than a hoovercraft with regard to required air flow.

I also wonder why any type of "green" motorized vehicle would use CO2? Isn't the green-goal to cut back on CO2 emissions (footprints)? Furthermore, if you didn't have adequate ventilation and developed a leak, you could become quickly asphyxiated.

BTW: I can't condone the dubious non-science regarding "human-caused climate change"[sic], or Algore "Global Warming"[sic].

I have the same questions as you, Tornado. There needs to be a better Scope of Work to eliminate assumptions.

Hi vkas6608,

As it is a project, if possible, make models of different designs with different types of drive, you can then compare the relative merits.

They don't all have to be made, you can just use some concepts as discussion points to illustrate your train of thought.

You could try just blowing the air through a direct able nozzle for the drive.

Best of luck with your project

John

Visit your local, friendly model shop.

You could also look at model boats on a number of sites. Google will sort them out for you.

Remember, air-operated boats can also use sails.

Here maybe you can improve the design.

Where to start? By framing the question my friend.

The first question is, Are you going to actually build this or is it simply a design contest with or without proofs.

Then if you are going to build it, How large and will it actually have to be to move how big a boat and what's it going to cost you to build?

Once you have figured these two things out you should be able to do some simple web searching and find a way forward on your own. (which, of course, is the whole purpose of a "project assignment".)

Fill the balloon with nitrous oxide gas (clean gas propellant). On the end of the exhaust, in series order: install an adjustable 1/4" needle valve (to adjust thrust), a 1/4" poppet check valve (to prevent combustion blow-back), followed by a 1/4" x 1/8" x 1/4" ceramic venturi nozzle. Add a battery-powered glow-plug (spark plug for a Cox gas engine plane) screwed into the venturi, which is energized by a on-board manual on/off switch. You will have a toy rocket boat.

Although, I think the originator of this post had something bigger in mind for a boat... unless this person is only 3" tall.

I would start from wherever you are going to school, unless you want to sail back to India first. These "minor" projects always take longer than what you anticipate.

An air operated motor boat-----> a small functional sailboat with a small auxiliary motor. Sails (air operated) and small battery for the motor that doesn't get used (motor boat) therefore an Air Operated Motor Boat.

Ahoy there. Meet you at the pond Mates!

Good Luck, Old Salt
