07/07/2015 8:51 AM

Check out below link. Its a challenge and I need to think about it a bit more before I come up with something. But there you go I share the pain.

What do you think is the secret? This is bio engineering - have fun!

You can either send a mail to the lizard man or share your ideas here. I would prefer to have this discussion here and we can post a link of the discussion to him

I wonder if the maze concept would prove anything? Or a tube running straight, where the tube environment can be manipulated.

Are lounge lizards attracted to Porto Rican rum?

These lizards choose their location for availability of food, and defend it on a daily basis...they have probably hunted the general area for some time and know it well, possibly even holding other locations in the area for some time and working their way to their present location through numerous battles with other lizards for territory....They know who what and where their enemies are and what areas they hunt and generally when....it's no surprise they know where their territory is as they have probably fought long and hard to get it, and are not willing to give it up without a fight...In other words they know the neighborhood, and it's residents, both allies and enemies....

Additionally all the other lizards know their territory and will defend it. This would push the lizard to the only undefended space - its own!

It is the same with bees.

They have a GPS- like location memory that lasts a while.

To make a new home they need to be transported, isolated in the dark for several days to get the new "coordinates" accepted.

This works for distances greater than 8 feet. (seems to be the accuracy of their locator)

Many Lizards here.

The doctor could first study "how move bee hives"

First, a brilliant post, thanks.

The dense rain-forest vegetation made it almost impossible for the lizards to be guided by visual cues, Dr. Leal said

Oi. A visual cue or clue, to a lizard, we don't know what that is. Birds navigate like we do over that distance, they look round, fly to the railway line till it hits the road, follow the road to the river, then along back to their tree.

I suspect the lizard does the same.

The 20% who don't come back? It's to avoid the jungle hazard known to lizards as 'ping pong shakey shakey magnet man'.

Well to us humans the truck of the tree looks like any other. Our sense of taste may not also be what the lizards is. Most reptiles us there sense of taste as we would smells. The trunk may produce odors that distinquish it from the other trees around it. One of the odors could be those lizards that live above them on the trunk which they have had boundary disputes with.

A combination of many different things. As humans we allow most of our senses to be dulled by the main ones, vision, touch and hearing. Our brain rules out so much information as unnecessary because we can't make visual, auditory or tactile sense of it.

The animal kingdom uses all of it's available faculties to survive on acounta they are as a general rule, prey for something.

The tree is not just a place they like to hang out, it is home, safety, food, family, familiarity. All of their senses have some type of recognition for their tree. Blocking just one sense at a time will not dull all the other senses they will be able to employ to find their way home.

Along with the tree comes community. Simpler life forms have more ways of communicating than making noise. Perhaps even communicate telepathically. Let's say the entire community wants to head home. they spread out in different directions, until one or more sense some familiarity, communicate that to the others and they all reconverge (note: yes I know this isn't a word...yet) as they narrow and home in on Tree. A few lazies and ones that got lost or out of communication range make up for the percentages.

Then there's the 6th sense. Dogs and cats finding they way home or to their owners thousands of miles away in places they've never been before. We as humans probably block this sense also so it's one we deny since we can't prove it scientifically.

In the lizard man's study, he needs to ask animal questions to understand them. You can't understand animals, when you think like a human.

Some human senses are dulled,, While others, due to our environment/demographics, are heightened.

For example, the operation of a motor vehicle, whereby pattern recognition contributes to preservation. As in passing a quick mart or other form of bait shop, where the likelihood of a vehicle in your path to either stop suddenly to turn into or pull out of said establishment.

They weren't moved that far and the jungle floor looks a lot diffferent to them than us.

They will eventually find something familiar and then follow that trail "home".

They must range around a bit looking for potential new or alternative territories and notice things.
