Mechanical Engineering Project

01/23/2016 1:34 PM

can any one suggest me any idea of mechanical engineering project which I can do for final year bachelor degree

Any idea or any project you did or you wish should have done or any idea which may seem impossible

Any problem daily faced which can be solved with mechanical engineering

No description compulsory only an idea will do

You don't give any ised of who or what you are, except clueless.

Have you no ideas of any projects?

What did your instructors/advisors say?

Please don't tell us they are no help.

You said, "Need a positive reply". That is, by the way, a poorly constructed group of words, and is not punctuated.

OK, I'm positive you're clueless!

I GAVE you two web sites that offer project ideas and all you do is whine?????????

How about a portable garage for my car that deploys with a push of the button and stands up to the wind....

this one's pretty cool, but not portable enough....

this is pretty cool, but requires too much storage space, and is too big...

this might work if it could fold up in the trunk and was a little smaller, like for sports car...

...the problem is getting something weather tight, lightweight, and sturdy, that folds up quickly and can fit in the trunk...but still allows parking in a parking lot space....

Make it a shade device with a built in heat sink for the hood, instead. A black car parked on white gravel in the hot sun after driving through heavy traffic with the AC on...CRIKEYS. The cap on my brake fluid reservoir melted!

How about a personal micro drone specialized for facilitation tasks and personal gooming. Something that takes an inventory of your physical state as it hovers around and performs maintenance.... fix your tie, get that stain off your shirt, fix your hair or even give it a quick trim, shave while you or read, shoot a breath mint into your mouth when needed, brush your teeth after each meal, get you a cup of coffee when you show signs of fatigue, give you a motivational talk or electric shock when it senses laziness, etc.

Yeah, it might look weird to have something always hovering around your face and sticking things in your mouth, or coming at you with a straight razor, but actually looking at someone's face in person is a thing of the past and the drone can easily be programmed to stay out of the screen for facetime or selfies.

Injection of small qty of water to reduce NOx from diesel engine. Now a days pollution is a big worry so this can help. A small modification in diesel engine or you may invent new injector that can inject both diesel and water at different pressure

Just an idea you would need to search a lot on this information. ARAI can help you on this.

Find an instructor who teaches combustion and speak to them. There are several things that can be done to reduce flame temperature in combustion to inhibit NOx reactions.

One topic that is so... game changing is, finding an additive reagent to water that would exert a force between the bonding Hydrogen and Oxygen atoms, making way to less energy used electrolysis.

Reagent should be cheap, non-toxic and abundant in nature.

If you can do that, probably that's the most outstanding discovery in this century.

Anyhow, a guy name James Stewart here in CR4 is a involve in Chemistry, may be he could help.

A sustainable cheap way to produce hydrogen might be found with nuclear radiation...Although it is perhaps widely known that the molecular bonds of H2O can be broken by dissociation at high temperatures, breaking molecular bonds with radiation is not widely talked about...A potential use for nuclear waste and the low cost production of sustainable energy, would be a win win in today's eco-political environment...

Breaking a bond happens much more often from radiation exposure than one might think. The part people forget about is getting the products to not recombine and release the energy by making a new bond.

Re: Mechanical Engineering Project

A scalable model should be doable...or at least a theoretical process demonstrated....

..."The current interest in nontraditional methods for the generation of hydrogen has prompted a revisit of radiolytic splitting of water, where the interaction of various types of ionizing radiation (α, β, and γ) with water produces molecular hydrogen. This reevaluation was further prompted by the current availability of large amounts of radiation sources contained in the fuel discharged from nuclear reactors. This spent fuel is usually stored in water pools, awaiting permanent disposal or reprocessing. The yield of hydrogen resulting from the irradiation of water with β and γ radiation is low (G-values = <1 molecule per 100 electronvolts of absorbed energy) but this is largely due to the rapid reassociation of the species arising during the initial radiolysis. If impurities are present or if physical conditions are created that prevent the establishment of a chemical equilibrium, the net production of hydrogen can be greatly enhanced.

Another approach uses radioactive waste as an energy source for regeneration of spent fuel by converting sodium borate to sodium borohydride. By applying the proper combination of controls, stable borohydride compounds may be produced and used as hydrogen fuel storage medium."...

Were this possible, then an over-unity device would follow; this forum treats such concepts with disdain and despair.

A creative solution to replace the rear bumper on my 2006 GMC. Should have connection points for towing, built in backup lights, a couple of steps, and a place for the license plate and plate lights.

It seems that hydrogen as a fuel is gaining a wider advocacy.

Why not do a comprehensive study illustrating both the advantages of hydrogen as a fuel (primarily water as the only waste product) and compare this advantage with the problems involved when handling hydrogen.

Your work should also include a study of the costs involved in obtaining the hydrogen from source to storage in what ever form it will be used.

If it is going to be used as a motor fuel, you will also have to consider the costs and hazards of the required distribution system.

I don't know what was taught in your previous three (?) years, but by my fourth year, a project was a requirement, and I didn't have a forum like this to help me.

Time's a wasting!

I would want to follow up on Travis Painter's work with locomotive dynamic braking energy recovery. He studied trains travelling el Cahon pass, I can't find a link to his paper right now but a thorough google should turn it up, a fantastic study worthy of it's own thread here.

Is this the work to which you are referring?

RECOVERING RAILROAD DIESEL-ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE DYNAMIC BRAKE ENERGY

by
TRAVIS D. PAINTER

B.S., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2004

Compliments of Google.

Sorry that I didn't enter a link, but I'm not too good at that.

Hope you can enter the title in a search engine and get the full paper.

I started reading it, and you were right, it is very interesting. Though I am not entirely familiar with the details of regenerative braking systems on Diesel-electric locomotives, el Cahon pass (and other stretches of track requiring a long application of braking) seems to be a good candidate for such a system.

As you note this would be a good project for a mechanical engineering project.

Re: Mechanical Engineering Project

The basic idea is that diesel locomotives use diesel engines to generate electricity that drives the motors that move the train. Those motors are also generators and under normal speed adjusting maneuvers the train uses the motors as generators but dump the heat into resistor beds (heating coils) on top of the train with large fans to blow away the heat. They like this because it doesn't wear away the brakes on the hundreds of rail cars that need to be maintained and doesn't waste air pressure.

Travis Painter's idea was to spin up centrifuges to store the energy, but the losses were too large. I have a better idea, but have had trouble getting it to the right people to discuss it.

In general, an improvement on any mechanical item which exists or has existed.

Or 2 popular old favourites which "may seem impossible": the perpetual motion machine and the time machine.

What about an ejecting cabin of an Airbus ..

Means in case of emergency the Airbus will eject the cabin into the sea And the cabin will be surrounded by air bags , for example : the air bags installed in vehicles for safety...

The only purpose of the air bags will be to absorb the shock without damaging the cabin
