MS Outlook 365 is a Total Loser

06/29/2016 7:56 PM

At work I have both Office 2010 and 365.

The 365 Outlook account sucks in comparison to 2010.

It is terribly slow and unresponsive.

Worse yet, it bears no resemblance to 2010.

Again, using it is the same as trying to use software in Chinese.

Nothing about 365 works the same, looks the same or reacts the same.

Every time these idiots come out with new systems it is a tortuous exercise to relearn the same software, revamped for $$$$$$$.

Is it just me?

I'm still limping along with WinXP and Office 2000 at home. Beats the crap out of 2013 on Win7 I have to use at work.

It's not just you.

I still have XP on my machines at home with either Office 2003 or 2007. I'm happy with those.

At work I am on Win7 with Office 2010 which is at least bearable although there was some level of frustration when we went to Office 2010. They dorked around with a lot of the tools for no good reason except to irritate us all.

Any time I have to use a computer with Windows H8, I am about ready to throw the computer out the window.

I really have no desire to test my patience with Win10 and Office365.

I've downloaded WPS Office and it may be what I use at home.

It resembles Outlook 2010 which I have learned to tolerate.

Outlook 365 sucks.

Why do they have to completely make every feature and the entire layout COMPLETELY foreign every time they "improve" an OS?

Can you refute anything I said? Do you have any experience with either product?

I've noticed as you upgrade the OS the computer requires more speed, whereas win 7 is ok on a dual core processor, it's slow with win 10, which runs good on a 4 core....I don't think you can really upgrade your OS anymore without increasing your processor speed....I have noticed win 10 sorts itself out over time...which is the opposite of what it used to be....

I'll never download w10.

Re: MS Outlook 365 is a Total Loser

I'm with Lyn on this one.

Win 3.1 & 95 were very crash prone and taught us all the meaning of "blue screen of death".

Win 98 and XP worked well. Put old Office 97 on one of them, a couple of engineering packages, a video editor and an audio editing program and most of us could do whatever we wanted. I had a large collection of Office macros that I wrote and they were VERY helpful in creating documents from engineering material.

Many of the old VBA macro commands are no longer supported. All buttons and functions are in different places, look different and act differently. Everything is slower and the watching the aneurysm wheel turn round and round makes my neck tired. When I should be getting something done I am often sitting in my chair looking like the velvet covered dog in the back window of the Chevy with my head going round and round as the wheel turns. Whenever I use Office 365 I am about as productive as I was my second or third day using Office 97. I often don't want to do the same things the same way that a Redman conference room decided I should change to each year.

The jump from WordStar on CP/M to Word on Windoze did bring may benefits with it. Since then the dozen or so "upgrades" that I have gone through have much more mixed (or negative) reviews.

On the other hand, with all the virus holes and "information shared to enhance your experience" provisions it is nice to know that whenever I do anything important it is probably backed up on numerous big-data and hacker computers worldwide.

Windows, sometimes needed. Linux, my OS of choice.

Perhaps Lyn would be happier with LynX.

I wouldn't try and teach him anything new at this point... We're in an evolutionary stage of communication that has hit it's stride, some will inevitably drop by the wayside unable to keep pace...

Obviously, I am NO fan of 365!!! See my post from a couple months ago asking an easy way to escape!

http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/107198#newcomments

Unfortunately, I met with more anti-Microsoft messages that any assistance..... (save the last 1-2 messages which finally helped me with my troubles away from the 365 mess!) I look to this massive brain trust for help not political, anti-MS, anti-anything sentiment from those who just like being negative - I get enough of that from my older brother!!

Let's all keep a clear head and remember what we should do - help people. Not condemn their thinking and their processes.

In no way do I want to see this become anything like thought police!!!

Then don't condemn me for saying that Outlook 365 is a POS. That's what I think.

You were given viable alternatives then.

Microsoft has a help desk too, use it. I think it's either $49.00 or $99.00 USD per visit.

Its not just you.

I have had 2010 since it was first sold, I had tobuy it to translate a German i2c manual into English for a publishing company. Never regretted it.

When 365 was first promulgated, I read all the reports and decided, without trying it out, NEVER EVER FOR ME!

I have never regretted this decision.

But companies buy such crap, maintaining it, instead of reading the reports from critics.....More money than sense....

Is it just me? Of course!

You have such huge problems with MS products, that I wonder if you have tried the free alternate products such as Ubuntu, Libre, etc. Or are you restrained at work to use only MS products?

I have not had a problem with Win 10, but have not used 365 at all. What I use are MS Word and Excel, and they work fine for me without demands for "fancy stuff."

I do! They completely change the look, function and usability in the name of progress.

Don't ridicule me if you've never used 365. It just proves you have a grudge against me.

W 10 was not the subject, was it? I hate it because it steals ALL your personal information and uses it any way the MS gang wants! Please continue to drink the MS Koolaid.

There is nothing constructive in your post. Just sour grapes!

Re: MS Outlook 365 is a Total Loser

I agree with Lyn! I have had nothing but problems with MS. With this so called voluntary upgrade being pushed at me every time I restart my computer. It is so aggravating that I just want to throw my computer out the back door on to the railroad tracks so I can wait for the train to come by and air mail it back to MS. That is why if I really need something done in a hurry I go back to my old computer with older OS that I just don't have the issues with. It gets so aggravating to come back to the computer and find it upgrading when I did not ask for an upgrade. Or when I shut down I can't shut down because it's sending updates so tomorrow I will have to wait an half hour to a full hour for it to install before I can get any work done. And as well as Lyn's concerns of info theft, I have several clients that will not allow me to use (Windows10) because of their security systems, and efforts to keep their Information off of the info highway. A large part of them are military and government contracts that I just can not live without the income just to upgrade for MS. As my family likes to eat and keep a roof over our heads I stay clear of 10. Done ranting for today, that ought last me until after noon GEEERRR!

My wife is hooked into the city's mainframe at home so she can work 24/7. They love her free labor.

So got up one morning and her laptop had just started an unwanted conversion from W 7 to W 10. Mind you this was unsolicited because I had warned her about losing all our banking, SS, medical and financial records to the cursed cloud and to MS for their personal use! Not to mention hackers who now have access to everything you do or say or type into your computer if you have W10.

Yes Margaret, if you have a camera in your laptop "they" can watch you undress and record the sounds you make doing whatever it is you are doing.

It's a Brave New World, much worse than 1984, and Big Brother Bill is really watching!

The only thing that MicroStuff wants is your money -- their product goal always seems to be "new" far more than "better"!

Hence, I totally agree with Brave Sir Robin's post: "A cranky old engineer that I used to work for was fond of saying, "Change is inevitable, progress is not."

Which is more ludicrous: The person who acts first then asks for forgiveness or the corporation who acts first then later settles multiple "class-action law suits"?

You can physically pummel the person but not the d-mn corporation!

As many have said, it's not just you. I have (luckily) used 365 on subscription.... It will be terminated on Monday. I grumped about Office 2007, but since I have the CD for that, it will go back on the box. And as soon as I am able to find an "Office program" for Linux, the Gates Virus gets the flick as well.

No problem, that why we are all here, so to say!!

You were lucky as I only installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on an older laptop last week, as test before updating my "main" laptop!

The older Ubuntus also installed an earlier version of Libre Office too if I remember correctly.

You will like the way software can be searched for and installed with Ubuntu.....

Best of luck.

I still have 2010 also, although our IT guy said not to use it, it is MUCH faster in performing any task than 365.

Viewing a picture is sometimes impossible with 365 unless I download it, which I don't want to do in most cases. No simple preview unless 365 is in a good mood.

So, speed sucks and all the features/controls are hidden.

Sure, others here ridicule me for not wanting to pay good money to be frustrated and befuddled, but nothing about 365 is better than 2010.
