Wait a minute, Billions of electric motors have only one moving part plus are way simpler to make too.

This is 3 axis movement with only one moving part. Add to that its self-balancing nature it could be quite the motive drive for a tall (humanoid) robot instead of legs, wheels or tracks.

Because the robot’s body dynamically balances atop the motor’s ball, a ballbot can be as tall as a person, but remain thin enough to move through doorways and in between furniture.

You gonna throw the robot away, and take the bowling ball on an outing?

No, with that ball I won't need the kiddie bumpers any more.

I need a smart ball when I go bowling. No further comment.

I won't accept the assertion yhat it has "one moving part" when it has rollers between the ball and the robot body.

Air bearings are not the way forward, as this only adds more moving parts.

Some kind of maglev would do the trick, but until there are some advances in room-temperature superconductors, I doubt it could be made with sufficient energy-efficiency.

Does it fall over when the battery runs down?

If they remake "The Jetsons", Rosey the Robot will definitely have one of these.
