To me, it sounds like Corporate Sabotage, someone within the company is doing a fine job taking Samsung down. Until they weed out "mole" saboteur(s) .... I'm surprised their TV's haven't had problems ... (yet)

What? Are you kidding? Search Samsung tv capacitors...I've chronicled 2 repairs on my Samsung tv in the last 3 years...

The exact same way that Volkswagen can survive.

  1. Own the mistakes.
  2. Pay the damages and/or fines
  3. Locate the QA flaws in your corporate system and fire them
  4. Slowly regain customer base and trust with sound products

Even following this regiment there's no guarantee that either of these companies will come back as strong as they once were. It can be done, Apple and others have.

So you would buy a phone or wahing machine that may burn down your house? Buy some stock.. It might be safer. VW.. There are so many other choices these days.

Survival may be possible.

But not as glamorous as it once was. Sad

I never said I would buy a Volkswagen or Samsung product. I also never said I would never buy one of their products. I would be wary of either company right now but who knows one day they might fabricate something to suit my preference.

My fireplace, cat, child and kitchen stove can all burn down my house. Everything we do incurs some risk. I trust my engineering designs but I cannot afford the time nor resources to examine all engineering nuances for everything I purchase.

Get real.

A water fountain should NEVER violently explode and catch fire.

Don't compare it to a stove, or fireplace.

It's not a real comparison.

Google the subject. It's pretty horrific. Not a limited number of minor instances.

Very real and very scary for the millions of people with these appliances.

Chances are everything will be just fine.

.. If you were playing lottery.. Your chances would be great that you would be 'lucky'.

They make beautiful products.

If my washer were to break in the last couple of years I'd likely have a Samsung or LG replacement.

It the classic problem of being marketing driven.
MUST have a new product, because company X has a new product... no time to actually develop something sensible... just what some twat in a suit insists that the market demands..
You'd think if company X's product explodes, you's maybe want to make sure yours doesn't.

Some areas that need a little more information.

A. The OP picture in the post, appears to be a washing machine, although in his reply, he says a water cooler should never catch fire. Are water coolers and washing machines the same in his country ?

B. Where exactly were these products that caught fire manufactured ?

C. Was there a change in a design that lead to this issue and what is the difference between the previous design and the faulty design.

D. Is there an indication of manufacturing date code with consistent starting and ending dates.

E. How did offending models of various products get past the testing engineers at UL, Consumer Reports, CE, etc ?

F. Has there been a study conducted to determine if operation, storage or environmental issues contributed to faulty devices ?

A..Ok I said drinking fountain because it seems the least likely of all appliances to catch fire with a stove being towards the other end. It was a point I was trying to make.

B K

C cords and other parts.. but I'm not on the legal team so don't quote me.

D~30+ models over the last five years or so

E Excellent question! the parts may have passed individually, but not as a whole.

F Yes. when you press the button it pretty much starts from there. It seems like you get the fire or exploding laundry more so than both at the same time.
