Girth Gear Alignment

12/20/2016 1:27 AM

I just want to know the standard root clearance and backlash in aligning girth gear. It is a set of new penion and old girth gear. The pair is worn.

If the gears are worn, I'd use engineer's blue and set the gears for best contact area without binding.

Or,

Sorry, that was worm, not worn.

The use of engineer's blue is widely known and used in setting up automobile differential gears, and would be an alternative here, as well.

What Lyn said, blue layout fluid is a good place to start, to see where the "schlach" is.

This is the sort of question for which one should consult the equipment manual or the manufacturer.

After a third look, "It is a set of new penion and old girth gear. The pair is worn".

No manufacturer is going to touch that.

Why not? They can always recommend to change both.

That's not the answer sazzad.kibria is looking for, nor likely one he will heed.

Personally, I would not try to use a worn gear with a new gear in anything important.

He could customize a gear to fit possibly...he doesn't say how much the gear is worn....it may be a very large gear...

The last three times I’ve been involved with girth and pinion gear replacements the manufacturer set the drives up.

They wouldn’t issue a guarantee otherwise.
