Probably names promoted by manufacturers to force branding as proprietary in nature...over time they become generic in meaning like Aspirin....

For the purpose of further confusing people who are already thoroughly confused.

I'd be very interested in knowing what exactly, if anything at all, you learned if you actually went to college.

Based on the quality of your questions, and the fact that many of them are easily answered by a simple search, I don't believe you've ever seen the inside of a classroom!

In North America anyway, yes there are defined differences, some by ANSI/IEEE specifications, and/or some by UL listing classifications.

Switchboards, panel boards and distribution boards are generally the same specs, but "switchboards" often mean using fused switches rather than circuit breakers. That is not however a technical difference in that the ANSI/IEEE/UL classification is the same. They are always low voltage (600V and under).

SwitchGEAR is a different classification, different specs/design criteria. Then there are sub-classes in that as well, ie Metal-Clad vs Metal Enclosed. Can be LV, MV or even HV.

Load centers are restricted to being LV equipment with lower fault duty (22kA and under) utilizing plug-in breakers, primarily for residential applications.

Switchboard, Panael Board, Distribution Board and Load Center are the same but only the size matters and it depend how you want to define it. Switchgear are different. Switcgears are individual breakes (same as MCCB but much much bigger) and use for high voltage system.
