will you please give me an idea of how a building elevator speed gearing reduction system that converts the fast rpm of electric motor driver to very slow speed of elevator cab?i know a little that multiple steel cable that wrap around a muligroove pulley does the reduction but can somebody give me a simple sample system of it where can i derive idea of it.pls.thanks.ed

Worm gear sets of ratios greater than say 20:1 are sometimes said to be "self-holding", but no elevator safety code I know of allows that to be relied on; there must be a motor brake. Furthermore, the cab/car may need a fall brake in case the cable fails. Elevator engineering is a specialty requiring proper consultation.

Modern elevators typically use VVVF(variable voltage variable frequency) controllers and a host of sensors to control the speed of the car....

Are you asking how gear reduction works or how to control elevator speed?

Depending on the age, location and type of elevator there is more than one answer.

Just buy one from a reputable elevator manufacturer (we did). This is not something that can be cobbled together by an amateur or even a qualified builder.

Why of course, most certainly. It is absolutely no hassle at all to assist our freeloaders in their economic endeavours of homework, business ventures and consultancy works. We are here to hand out at a moments whim. Come now gents, lets us collectively assist this fellow. Ed Tarrosa, we can assist and provide all components and we will pop over and install it for you.

Our proposal as shown below: This unit is supplied with its own electricity and is fully airconditioned. The passenger cab is luxurious allowing total relaxation in an inclined seating position for maximum comfort. The cab is designed to allow a full 360 degree vision of the city. The lift is transportable and can be moved to other buildings that do not have lifts. (Trolley wheels optional).

(This option shown is the luxury range showing the easily transportable cab that allows the operator to transport the passengers to their respective destinations with ease and for package deliveries).

The unit can be supplied in clock work to enjoy electrical cost savings and full compliance to to negating pollution. A carbon footprint door mat is optional.

Really? can't you just go into an existing two-story building with an elevator and take a look? that would be a hell of a lot better than a few paragraphs here.

Either method would be entirely inappropriate but best of luck to you.

Remind me to NOT take the elevator you designed.

I'd steer clear of the entire structure if it were I.

Hi ed,

I used to be an I.U.E.C. member. I built elevators for a living. Modern traction elevators don't use a gear reduction system to change speed. They vary the speed of the motor and use a mechanical brake to hold the elevator at each stop. But, if you have a two story building, you probably want an oil hydraulic elevator system for cost purposes. The variable speed of a hydraulic elevator is governed by a sensitive valve system. Both systems are controlled by solid state electronics, programmed and adjusted by the installer.

Either way... The installation, maintenance and repairs of elevator equipment SHOULD NEVER BE DONE BY ANYONE OTHER THAN A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL! It's very dangerous work!

with only two floors you should go to hydraulic. much safer with far less extra safety parts

Why bother with messy hydraulics or greasy cables.

A tube and a vacuum pump is all you need!
