Do you believe it is ever over?
Do you mean at a personal or cultural level? What do you think of philosophy?
Shroedinger makes a cup of tea, but is distracted whilst making it by thoughts of particle physics and can't remember if he put in the sugar...
What is the state of his tea sugar wise?

Ha. You caught the OP in a conundrum, if he chooses to answer:

"What do you think of philosophy?"

I guess it all pertains to whether you arrive at a point in life where you have more questions than answers, or vice versa.

But as fpr the Greeks and Romans-- I have definitive opinions. I vote "nay"...they did not believe such to be true--Professorship could be revoked at any given juncture, just as it could be conferred.

He could just take a sip and find out.

All the theory and conjecture in the universe does not overrule a simple proven fact derived from real life testing and confirmation.

Does it matter?

If so, why?

Of course education ends for everyone. It ends when they die.

I disagree.

For many it willingly ends way before that. Their knowledge cup is full of crap and they put the lid on to make sure nothing that could contradict anything in their collection of mental crap will ever have a chance to get in and displace any part of what they have collected.

They're proud to be stupid and thusly have no intent of ever letting it change.

I'll ask a couple of friends who teach Classics at a college. They probably would at least have an opinion.

Not, yet. We have still a lot to chew. Someday, we can dismantle molecules in one tweak.

Can you really know ANYTHING without consensus? Or is it still opinion?

Consensus is a poor metric for evaluating knowledge about most things, other than consensus itself.

If you drop a bowling ball on your foot, causing you excruciating pain, would you need witnesses in agreement to the fact to be quite sure?

Some people will deny that the bowling ball ever existed as they limp away.

I thought the Greeks and Romans had their own gods. So they had no time believing in education was over.

And over what anyway?

This is CR4 - The Engineer's Place for News and Discussion. You want the Archeologist's Place for History and Discussion. That's about 10 doors down the hall.
