I was expecting a comment on winter storm Stella and the "Blizzard of 2017". Looks like some record lows going along with it. You like to keep us guessing, don't you?

Glad this only clipped us north of Detroit, we saw 3" at the most, but cold and windy.

It really sucks after have weeks at 50 to 70 degrees. Now we are getting lake effect off of Lake Huron with the wind blowing from the north.

One might easily assume that the front wheels are in front of the engine, and this exhaust manifold. That would be caked on salt dust from the flats, problem is worse when the flats are more moist than usual. Looks like run conditions were non-optimal.

The white stuff identity really does depend upon what is resting on. I leave it to you to figure out from there, especially vertical arrangements thereof on top of shicken poo.

That's insulation, probably to keep the exhaust from burning the fiberglass, or cooking the paint....

I think he is referring to the crusty white stuff on top of the insulation and behind on the body. But you never know, could be a trick question.

Answer: Snow wouldn't last too long at all on the headers of a running engine.

The headers are indeed wrapped so they will hold heat longer, and the hot gas inside will flow better in a hot tube versus a cool one.

This pic was taken during Speed week - Aug 2016 @ Bonneville, Utah.

It's SALT

I used to race motorcycles back in my fitter days.

What you are seeing is exhaust pipe wrap, it is used to keep the exhaust gases hot longer. The reasoning being that hot gases are less dense and travel faster, increasing flow and aiding in scavenging the cylinder. I used it on my four stroke bikes, on my two strokes, I played around with variable liquid cooling on the expansion chambers of the exhaust pipes.
