that's supposed to run like that for 3-5 days without further damage? hmm.

..because the water will fly over the damaged edge of the spillway @ 40kcfps

It's good that that's a short term plan, but I'm not really impressed considering the financial out-pour it's taken to get here.

I'm hoping this becomes very clear inarguable lesson on why we need to keep all of our national infrastructure properly maintained, and if needed redesigned, to actually handle its intended and designed for working conditions at any time.

Actually much worse has happened multiple times over just in my 42 years on this planet.

Modern day engineering disasters.

Far far worse than this in every way have happened dozens of times just in the USA alone in the last 50 years.

I dare say world wide, situations as bad as this are a near weekly event.

in reading the thread there are some of the mind that because it didn't burst and no lives were lost it really isn't that bad. I think it's horrible. so it depends

I was meaning to ask you (Fredski), in the other posts about Oroville Dam, if they decommissioned Lake Oroville, what kind of effect would that have on So. Cali ? Being I lived in No. Cali for awhile and never really gave it much thought.

Well some think a big dent in their vehicle means its totaled beyond repair.

To others its just frigging dent and time schedule a trip to the repair shop when possible.

What I see here so far is just a dent.

And to others, it's a form of patina. To be worn proudly, in order to further intimidate the yuppie a-holes in their Lexus and Mercedes.

Whats horrible about it?

It's still very much not only a repairable issue but something that is well within known and understood civil engineering design and construction practices to vasty improve on.

Rather basic and mundane in comparison to many of the public works projects done elsewhere really.

perhaps I misunderstood, I heard the spillway is to be replaced with a completely different smaller design. all the bubblegum and band-aids are an attempt to get through Spring run off.

Don't we have flood control pumps that could keep up with that kind of flow? For the money they spent, might it have been cheaper to fly in some pumps and pipe the water around the damage?

Yes but they arent california emissions compliant so they cant run them over there because it might do something to upset the tree huggers whose houses they are trying to keep from being washed away.
