What is Making This Sound?

04/17/2017 7:50 PM

Hello, I'm curious to know what is creating the sound from this Youtube video assuming all of this is done only with water flowing through the fountain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O9fRrGy3lM&feature=youtu.be

Thank you very much for your time.

"Whistling sounds develop whenever water flows rapidly past or through a narrow restriction or an obstruction. This often happens inside a valve or faucet when the washer has been distorted or when the brass screw that holds the washer in place is loose."

Sometimes when you turn the hot water on, you can tell from the sound when it gets hot. I think it's because the speed of sound changes, either because of temperature or bubbles from air coming out of solution, and this changes the resonant frequencies.

Sometimes water fountains may exhibit a lot of entrained air, if the water was cool at first, and now has warmed at the end of the pipe, (since it is dead-legged, the air accumulates, and the water might come out "milky" looking).

Nah, Solar only whistles Dixie when passing through a graveyard at night, whilst slinging a dead cat around his head three times, and bowing to Dubowski.

That is the fountain inviting youngsters (who were frightened and ran away), to come and wet their whistles.

It very well could have been someone off camera with an effects whistle.

OR it could be due to a restriction (control valve set improperly??) near the water outlet, that sets up a tube vibration mode.

That was some idiot in the back ground letting air escape from a balloon. Sorry, that's what I heard.

Or had just eaten at Taco Bell, tuning-up to hum The Well-Tempered Derriere by J.S. Bach (soon to be punctuated by a volcanic lahar of Biblical proportions).

Impress me with flight of the bumblebee coming out of your arse. If you can do that, then you have a worshipper.

Bring a HAZMAT suit. Not as bad as chowing down on a bag of Haribo Sugar-Free Gummi Bears (scroll down to the review). The gift that keeps on giving.

Did you forget I work for a coating shop? We have hazmat suites, Tyvek with booties and hoods, also have respirators, I can come dressed if you are doing the flight of the bumblebee.

Bring it!!!

Forgot to mention the Kevlar-reinforced asbestos part and welding googles. Even so, you might want to plan an escape route, say, to a bunker in Siberia.

(do read that review. Funniest damn thing I've seen in a long time)

I just actually just bought a new welding helmet from Grainger. And it rocks,

  • Item# 40CN02. All the bells and whistles.

This one :

I have plenty of gloves. Trust me, escape routes are in my DNA. Flight of the bumble bee or not?

Escape routes are in your DNA? Is that why I never got that beer you offered? Did you ever make it to Chicago?

No, we didn't. American Axle's new job, stopped the Chicago trip. They still want us to go, I'll update you if and when we go.

I do owe you a beer, if I can't get there to have one with you, I'll send it to you.

Or you can come here, but expect more then one...LOL

No worries.

More than one? Well, I've heard that one is none and two is one so maybe drink three to be on the safe side.

I'll for sure let you know If I were out that way.

In your north I saw a bumper. "don't hate me because I married a troll"

I have that same helmet. Trying to weld without auto tint is impossible for me...I can never hit the right spot!

Well, you could hit the right spot, but then you would not be able to see the puddle or the bead for at least one minute, am I right?

Wasn't that included with the episode of MythBusters where they made attempted rocket fuel from Gummi Bears?

Sounds like the chattering of a brass anti backflow check valve. The frequency drops as the flow rate increases.
