An effort is required to know the answer of a question that may be in your mind,But no one can help you if you don't put it forward with a sincere effort and thoughtful mind.

Well, a simple walk through the instrumentation shop asking questions would answer that one. Sheesh!

Look up Loop Drawings, they are the best for planning and record keeping. They combine the physical wiring and the linked software, arranged in process flow order for your plant.

Mostly you need to detail where the wires are, the span of the instrument (4-20mA=0-100mPA), the software identification for the hardware value, how the wires connect to the instrument and to the IO module, and where the process value is used in the software, and what it manipulates, if in control.

Perhaps an old DCS system you have, Fisher Provox IFC, I have not worked with these systems, but they should all be very similar. Fisher SR90 Integrated Function Controller, does PID loop solution.
