Nothing.

Shedding antlers is a natural thing.

Yes, shedding antlers is natural, shedding the top of your skull is called hacksawing.

I suppose we could call it "Involuntarily Shedding", similar to "Extreme Rendition" or "mugging?

It could be natural if I, the big bad wolf, was trying to get to those tasty brains after making the kill, just don't think my canines would make such a clean cut through the skull.

Not in this neck of the woods.

We have a new law here. As of about a week ago, if you hit it (Automotive wise) you get to eat it.

We've had that law or at least that unspoken rule here all my life.

If you hit a deer you should call it in to the local law and have a patrol officer sign off that it was a road kill. From there most times they will let you have it.

Although a lot of people who drive pickups don't even bother with the call in unless they took on enough front end damage to require a insurance review and need an official sign off of the accident.

Otherwise I'd expect to go walking through the woods and find deer brains laying around where they'd fallen out after the antlers shed.

Hint #1 Driving around the beltway in Washington DC it was not uncommon to see an engine and transmission laying on the shoulder of the road. We often wondered, did that just fall off a car and nobody noticed?

In an accident if these break loose of the vehicle do you really think the tow truck operators make a special trip to come back and collect them?

Just out of curiosity, do you see many accidents where the engine and transmission fall out?

What I saw on most occasions is that a car would break down on the DC beltway on Monday. On Tuesday, the tires doors engine and transmission were gone. On Wednesday, most of the body panels and interior were gone. On Thursday a flatbed would come around to hoist off the remaining carcass. A lot like scavengers on the Serengeti. You'd see an engine and transmission when they fell off a truck and they just didn't come back for them.

They are rare unless the accident is serious, but by then the vehicle is not really in that good a state.
