Steam Engineer

We do have an OTSG . On the inlet of the water we have DP flow meter and the outlet of the OTSG the flow goes to 4 wells through the manifold . Each well after the manifold is equipped with vortex meter flow meter And vortex meter is measuring volume flow . And we require the water equivalent from each vortex meter . Since the steam expands we need to divide the vortex volume flow with number of expansion.

How can we calculate the expansion in volume with respect to water with current pressure and temperature.

I just use a Water and Steam Program (WASP) to do this from katmar.

i also have a excel program that I incorporated in when I wrote heat exchanger sizing programs.

It seems you want to make sure that water into the generating section equals water out. Use the tables per PW Slack or Phoenix911 calculator to calculate the mass of the water in the different states.

The DP flow meter is already mass responsive, so the output can be converted to English units lb-mass per hour, pay attention to the units in the flow meter calibration, so that you use the right temperature for the water volume to mass conversion.

The tables account for the amount of water contained in the different states, so you don't need to directly measure expansion.

Remember that a vortex meter is only velocity sensing, so you need temperature and pressure to calculate mass, velocity for flow. You will find significant errors if the temperature & pressure are remotely sensed or set to average operating conditions, and the vapor/gas flow is not steady (in the case of frequent empty line charging, for example).

I think you want to know the mass flow of water flowing thru the vortex meter.

Water is not compressible ,so you can neglect the pressure effect.

If you know the temperature of water ,you know the density at flowing condition.

Density X Volume flow = mass flow

you need steam properties for the flow meter calculation,steam pipe line loss calculation to get the correct flow rate individually.
