Fiber Optics SCADA

08/15/2017 5:42 PM

Hi,

How can we design a SCADA network using fiber optics - for protection and control of underground cabling using SONET/SDH standardized protocols?

Best Regards,

The same way you would design one using copper wiring.

Appears, there is one supervisry computer - Master computer, and one sub - supervosry computer - submaster computer.

The blue ring appears optical fibers inside HDPE pipe with SONET/SDH standardized protocol.

In underground system also we determine faults with instrument transformers? What is Data Xcvr 1 Input 1 Output? What are the major parameters to be monitored. Please help.

Those are the transmit/receive terminals....the parameters to be monitored are based on the application....what is the application?

The application is trench and trenchless underground cabling of power cables for a distribution system.

So it's power transmission....What do you think you need to monitor on this system?

line voltage and current, short circuit levels, charging current (i read its high in cables causing heating), active and reactive power flow, power factor etc are most important I think.

Where Fault Passage Indicator (FPI) and Feeder Remote Terminal Unit (FRTU) fit in this diagram of yours?

This posted is just an example,, you would have to make a study of what measurements you need to monitor, how and where you will measure them, what equipment you will need, where and how it will be housed, cable types and locations, etc ... Start with a site drawing with accurate measurements and defined areas...

It sounds as though <...we...> should be engaging someone else to do it.

You have to run Fiber optic cable to connect the scada Remote controllers and the Main control station. Your SCADA system equipments/Controllers shall be compatible for SONET/SDH protocol.
