Went slightly dim here ~78% coverage. Sun appeared as a crescent moon would.

All I had was a box with a foil pinhole, about 2 mm (not good), and a piece of printing paper on the backside of the box that was baby oiled. Could see a small crescent of the sun about 4-5 mm across.

A bunch of us here at CR4 HQ got to watch sharing a couple of welding helmets and assorted homemade cardboard-box viewers. The entire ZEN building must have emptied out for the event.

Thanks for the pictures, Fredski, tcmtech, and SolarEagle!

My SunSpotter drew some attention at the rest area on I26 in SC.

Photo just before totality:

Unfortunately, a cloud showed up at just the wrong moment.

Where can I get me a sun-spotter? Did you make that?

My wife gave it to me a while back.

It's exactly like this one.

For $500, I would risk building my own, and putting out my own lights eyes with it.

It looks like a folded Keplerian telescope, right?

Re: just now Or USA

We had about 78% at 2:27pm eastern time. Pretty cool. I used my Miller Infinity series welding helmet at #13 shade. Worked out well.

One question though, for the life of me, I could not get a picture through the helmet. Didn't matter how close at far I had my phone and digital camera, or angle, all I got was reflection from behind. Is there a trick??? (And no, I didn't have the flash on, on either device) I tried various settings on the digital camera all with the same results.

Anybody get a picture through a welding helmet?

Your camera should be able to adjust to the light on it's own, no additional lens required...I would use the front lens so you are looking away from the sun...While the Sun is in total eclipse, no shade is needed...

I tried it without a filter, although I got pictures of the sun there was still too much light to show detail. The ex-wife took the good Nikon D3400 (24mp) and left me with the old Canon PowerShot A560 (7.1mp). Don't think it's any better then the camera on my phone.

This was at the peak of our eclipse at about 78%. Looked a lot better through the helmet.

This is the only one I got through the helmet that shows anything other then total reflection. I cropped out the reflection of my ugly mug, this was when it first started.

I had the same issue trying to get a picture through a #10 lens . Weird?!

My pinhole and some on again off again clouds made for fine viewing.

That's about the same as what Robin and I saw just north of Fox, OR, on Hwy 395. Beautiful display of corona and "diamond ring" effect. We drove about 160 miles to see it. Meanwhile, CR4 member Mikerho was going to be in Madras, OR.

Awesome pictures. Thanks from a land where a minor partial was obscured by cloud.

I had 2 minutes and 32 seconds of totality visible from my yard; no clouds and a wonderful site.
