“HELPING SAVE THE PLANET CAN BE BOTH EXCITING AND BEAUTIFUL” Henrik Fisker, Founder & CEO

Seems a rather bold statement. I didn't notice that the planet was going anywhere.

Maybe the people if someone doesn't save us from pollution.

It' s pretty car, but how much will it cost?

..."Pricing in the U.S. started at US$102,000 for the base model (EcoStandard), US$110,000 for the intermediate EcoSport model and US$116,000 for the top model (the "Animal Free" EcoChic)."...

2011- 2012 models... I think were only a couple of thousand were produced before they shut down...

..."The Karma is a range-extended electric vehicle or series hybrid driven by a pair of 120 kW (161 hp) electric motors that receive power from a 20.1 kWh lithium ion battery supplied by A123 Systems and/or an engine powered generator. The battery pack runs down the center of the car, between the pairs of left-hand and right-hand seats, preventing a rear bench and seating four rather than five passengers. Once the battery is depleted, or when the driver activates the "Sport" paddle on the steering wheel, the front-mounted 260-hp, 2.0-liter Ecotec four-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged gasoline engine powers a generator that sends electricity directly to the drive motors. The engine is sourced from General Motors.[1][24] The battery can also be charged from the grid, making the vehicle a type of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)."...

The phrase '"Animal-Free" EcoChic' tells all that needs to be told; namely that someone has been bedazzled by some EcoChick models.

Er, <...20.1kWh...> in <...1 minute charging time...> is, er...[tap, tap, tap, press equals]...1206kW. That's some charging point and cable!

Ooops. The bullshine detector has just gone off. Back later...

Do you really want to connect any vehicle (that also has a gasoline or diesel tank) to an electric connector that will be energized to a re-charging system with a power level over 1 MW? That is totally scary IMHO.

Yes sir, totally agree. Now, if they do have this new wonderful battery, how come Elon Musk isn't already three steps ahead of them?

...electric motors that receive power from a 20.1 kWh lithium ion battery supplied by A123 Systems and/or an engine powered generator.

I've heard of A123... weren't they part of the green energy push that collected huge government grants for investment for green energy back in the 2009-2010,.. and then proceeded to go bankrupt. I don't believe they were alone, but it seems to have a common business plan with others green energy companies.

well, I guess the road to hell is paved with good intentions... or... knowing which pockets to grease for a payout.

Re: 500 mile range, 1 minute charging time, add salt

OK, an estimate of energy required to travel 500 miles is 5 x 34 KWh = 170 KWh.

https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1082737_electric-car-efficiency-forget-mpge-it-should-be-miles-kwh

Now, let's see how much power transfer would be required to recharge in 1 minute:

170000 x 60 = 10.2 MW , maybe 1000 V at 10,200 amps ?

Yeah, it all sounds a bit like "The Edge of Tomorrow", but that much juice will knock someone back into the stone age, I am pretty sure. All it would take is a half-hearted connection before energizing.

Cabling required for charging at that current would certainly be impossible to be lifted and connected manually.

So I guess they must be going with wireless charging!

Can you imagine half of that power going into the air as radiation?

Re: 500 Mile Range, 1 Minute Charging Time, Add Salt

Well here is another link from earlier in the year mentioning 400 Mile plus, 9 minute charging, with the 9 minute charging relating to a 25% charge not full charge using a Fisker proprietary fastcharger.

Link

Seems all very theoretical at this stage and merely a "big numbers" theoretical limit to hype the vehicle pre-order sales rather than practical implementation and delivery.

Theoretical, or theatrical?

Either way, the hype is evident.

I would not touch such a car with an insulated 10 foot pole.

If you're Ecochic, people just throw money at you because you're politically correct and cutting edge....It's kind of like organic food, it makes no sense, you can charge twice as much for it, and it's kind of crappy....

Down here we call this SORT OF STYLE wearable art. An apt description if ever there was one.

Just wait until wearable electronics becomes more mainstream and people start to add lights and sirens in.

Eco, <ptf> more like LOOK AT ME.....LOOOOOOKKKKKKK AAAAAAATTTTTTT MEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
