What Is it?

11/19/2017 1:56 PM

So I didn't make the long bike ride out to Fermi-Lab this summer, but I did dig up crud in the back yard.

The rusty thing is what I'm curious about.

No way.

No provision for fasteners except the single hole with the bolt.

The thing on the right looks like a trailer hitch that was cut off. The one on the left indicates that Solar Eagle must have got there first.

the thing on the right? It could be something from the masons 100+ years ago? It appears to have some sort of mortar/stucco on it.

..the thing on the left?

what about the things at the bottom?

Hello all,

The original and side images are coming up as "forbidden" because they are from what looks to be a private Google account.

To get the image to appear in the first place I had to open it in a new tab then paste the link. Hmm.. I'll have to find another way.. too easy.

So? If Lyn can still see them? Lyn do you use Google photos or are you just a hacker?

kendall,

"Useless Gadgets" has been moved to the break room. To have access to the break room you need to join the user group CR4 Fans, which you should be able to do from this link: http://cr4.globalspec.com/group/49/CR4-Fans.

Damn. I can't see my pics either?

Not on me mobile anywho.

I can only imagine it's a byproduct of my useing Google photos.

.. on a similar note I didn't see Avatars when on my notebook over the weekend and had to source a generic eagle head for lasering my pet rock.

I notice that the bolt is much smaller diameter than the hole it goes thru. Possibly a rubber grommet rotted out from it? It kind of looks like a ratchet mechanism from an extension ladder, but it has two grooves instead of one. Could it be a ratchet mechanism from a farm implement? What was the land you found it in used for? That might give you a clue. If it was near a marina, it might be boat related. Other than that, I don't have a clue.

I see that the bolt has a galv washer. I suspect that the bolt is a later addition for a re-use. I too am puzzled by the lack of fastening points. Unless the wings are meant to be embedded in brick/stone/mortar and the holes take a gate hinge pin.

Now that I can see it . . . . It reminds me of the lower wishbone of a car's front wheel suspension--but it is too small. But maybe that will jiggle someone's memory cells.

I have an old 14' aluminum boat that has a cast bow point/anchor lock that looks similar to that.

That's the problem. There's only one bolt hole that I can see. Same problem I had with all of SE's pictures. It never went on an engine.

It's a stumper?!

I'll post a picture of a large odd screw I found that may be same era or provide some direction. More hits to dig for clues.

I'll get around to cleaning it up and posting better pictures.

Bits at the bottom are for BIS.

The rock is SE's pet I'm watching for now.

It's off center.. so I'll make another. After a beach walk..

Damn them all! They did it, they finally did it! Oh, the ruination of it all!

Misquotation of Charleton Heston in Planet of the Apes.

Here he is sporting his "ANSA" badge on his space jumpsuit. What we could not do with another twenty or one hundred years worth of movies like what he made.

I'm guessing some kind of directional selector such that one way blocks a device from moving while enabling a counterpart to move.
