Screw Part Number Equivalent

09/21/2007 1:22 PM

Hello-

This is my first post on here, but a daily reader... I am an engineer for a defense contractor, and am currently looking for a military part number for the following screw:

18-8 SS Fillister Head, Slotted Machine Screw #6-32 x 3/4"

I have been digging on this, and have the commercial number used to order it, but we were looking for the military (or "MS...") part number, and most of the specs/standards I've came across have been inactive, cancelled, or the screw has the 'drill-hole' in it. We are looking for the one without. Any help is appreciated. Thanks-

You have answered your own question. The fillister is the drill head. Good luck finding a nonstandard MS number. Call the nearest USAF base ask for "supply" and they will help you.

The mil standard for that screw is the MS35275-232. That particular mil standard was cancelled and replaced with NASM35275 on 27 October 1999. All the part numbers remained the same so you still order MS35275-232 for a 3/4 in. long 6-32 fillister head screw, drilled.

From the Change 2 to the document,

MILITARY STANARD

SCREW, MACHINE – DRILLED FILLISTER HEAD, SLOTTED

CORROSION RESISTING STEEL, PASSIVATED, UNC-2A

MS35275B, dated 14 JUNE 197, is hereby canceled and superseded by NASM35275.

The Part Identification Number (PIN) for MS35275B and the part number for

NASM35275 are identical. The part numbers have not been changed.

Most of the other mil standard hardware have gone also gone to NASM specs. In all cases, they have simply reproduced the military standard with their own cover page and even retained the MS part numbers so we in the defense industry don't have to write a boatload of change notices to update the part numbers.

If you want unusual hardware, my favorite vendor is Accurate Screw Machine, http://www.accuratescrew.com

Good luck with your quest!!
