I bet there are a bunch of musicians among us, how about a musician's user group in the hobbies?

Editor's note:
We added the group, so you can now sign up for the Musicians User Group

That's a great idea. Looks like I'll have to dust off my 1981 Fender Jazz Bass (last US manufactured model)

I just added a Musicians User Group under hobbies.

I also added a link to the Musicians User Group to your original post. It's open to anyone who plays a musical instrument of any type.

Thanks,
- Chris

And here's a list of all our user groups. Find other engineers and technical folks with similar interests to your own...

That's a great idea...

I play drums for almost 20 years as an amateur... I always play in a band (and rarely in two bands... lack of time...)... little occupation with keyboards... I also do vocals...

I've just signed up to the musicians group...

Actually I think this is a really bad idea. First and foremost, this is a site for Engineer's to ask and answer engineering-related questions. If this is allowed to proliferate then before long there'll be horticulture section. And a sky-diving section. And even worse, someone will start to push their own special genre of music. Get the picture. Don't get me wrong. I love music. I was radio jock for 5 years before graduating with an Engineering degree. I come to this site for Engineering insight and advice. I read the Rolling Stone for my music fix. So Bro, tune it to engineering.

Hey, sky diving. Now that would be a hoot. Recently met a 74 yr old guy that started sky diving at 73; he loves it.

Botman,

I hear you, on the one hand, but on the other, I guess the MHUB here will pay a lot more attention to the techie side of music....knowing engineers.

Things like the reason behind 600 ohm impedance for mike cable, indeed, all the different types of microphones and which type is better for what, sound pressure levels vs. watts required for reproducing music at home, what is happening when a band or orchestra 'tunes up', the tie-in between engineers, mathematicians, physicists etc. and music...

I suspect it won't look so much like Rolling Stone or AMG or whatever...

happy tunes

True, pls include the age old technical debate whether to go MOSFET or valve or something "digital" these days, the pro's and cons and of course the personal taste one looks for. I personally think music is a Very technical field. Many thanks also to you Chris, you got my vote on this one.

Good Morning botman,

Your point is well taken...............it does seem an odd topic for a site where you would expect conversation of a different nature. I would point out though that beyond the specific topics this group discussed is the level at which the conversations are carried on. By that I mean that we are more likely to see and participate in intelligent, thoughtful and even enlightened conversations here, not nearly the drivel I see many other places. If I wanted to talk about guitars (acoustic of course) I would welcome the opinions here.

Besides I don't have to participate in the group if I choose not to.

There is a Hobby group established, and the only choices were ham radio, and model rocketry.....

I don't think a musicians group is too far off topic, especially given some of the topics that come up in the general section...
