Information Overload?

12/28/2005 10:45 AM

The last several years I have seen a lot of stories in the news about "information overload", most recently in an article on CNN.com. The only problem is, I'm not overwhelmed. Actually, if anything, I'm often frustrated by what isn't available. For instance, why are there hardly any movies available on my digital cable "movies on demand" channel. Why is it so difficult to get a deal between the studios and the cable companies so that I could have all movies at my finger tips. Also, why aren't all Scientific journals available via the web? Or Books? I would argue that we need to get more information on the web, not less.

Deal Making

The reason why there are few "On Demand" movies is that is is not in the tried and true distribution channels. The Entertainment industry is built upon these channels to share risk.

Information on the web

12/29/2005 7:54 AM

The biggest problem you will find about science journals is there are sites that do publish pertinant information, only you need to join the groups and pay a reasonable fee for access too these type of sites. It does cost money to develope and load the documents onto the web. You pay for certain types of information. Good example is the new personal search sites, otherwise known as spy sites. You pay for personal information about anyone you want to know about. These sites will give you more private information on a person then what they really want anyone to know about. Your personal financial information is out there and if I want to know about you, I can pay for it. Rest in peace, and maybe you could get on the band wagon and help fix your concerned problem of not having everything you want. Help develop a system enable your wants. Have fun!

CNN

I personally find the U.S. media as a whole to be a useless entity. C.N.N. seems to be nothing more than an outlet for the U.S. government's latest misdirection technique. Dick Cheney and Haliburton Oil are running game on the lot of you and the sad thing is that campaign of misinformation seems to be working.

The exception that proves the rule in this case is Harpeers magazine. If you've never read it then you are not informed. Check out Lewis Lapham's article entitled Dar 'al Harb (Domain of Disbelief) and see if you can't edify yourself.
