Obscure Thread Spec

Has anybody heard of a "G 1/2" sized pipe thread? We received a sensor with this thread on the process connection, and it came with its own special threaded port to weld in place. We'd much rather incorporate a G 1/2 threaded hole into our part instead of dealing with the welding, but I have no idea what the thread dimensions are. Is this a standard thread spec in Europe?

Go to Google search engine and in the subject line write G1/2" threads & enter. I did & I saw several suppliers.

Obscure thread spec

This is a metric pipe thread. Festo sells lots of fittings with this spec and adapters between these and American NPT threads, if you want an adapter. My Machinery's handbook (23rd edition) has it among the "British Standard Pipe Threads for Non-pressure-tight joints". Since it is a straight thread, it typically requires some sort of gasket: an o-ring or Festo sells a plastic ring that will deform to seal as the thread to tighten. Search the web with "BS 2779:1973" for more information.
