How electric circuit works....???

10/15/2007 8:29 PM

Hello friends....

I am non engineering person but i have read about basic electronics and all components like registers, transisters, diods and capacitors, ohms and kirchiffs law on various web sites.... But yet i didnot understand how this parts works on circuits when they r soldered together???

Can you make me understand by taking example of amplifire circuit...?? If i give preamp signals to amplifire then how lot of registers and diods and capacitors and inductors works together.... If i give pre amp signals of 30 hz and 1000 hz and 22000 hz to amplifire will different route on circute will be used as per frequency ?? what happens exactly and why lot of parts are used in circuit...???

Or you can give me link which will make me understand how all electronic component works togehter?? on all links i found contains only basic level information..

Thanks a lot...

Good luck...

Vinayak K. Salunkhe.

You are way over your head my friend. Start at a much lower level to understand about "conductivity", then in 3 or 4 years of in-depth study you can begin to start plugging components together.

The answer to your question is far too long to br posted here. The best way to get it answered would be to study electricity.

I am so tempted to answer this one, but sad to say, unless u have a decent basic knowledge, u will not understand what any of us were to explain to you.

you mentioned you read about.. res, caps, transistors, etc. yet u have no idea why they works when soldered together. this means u do not understand what u read.

Every of those little components has their characteristics which designers knows them and use them to manipulate the signals so he gets what he wants at the output.

As others have stated, you have to understand the basics before you can understand more complex circuits.

There are some educational software tools I found for my kids to play with. One of the best is Crocodile Clips. They used to have a free version for DC circuits aimed at 8-12 years old kids, the purchased version is now far more complete.

There are some interesting applets (java programs to run in your browser) to explain and simulate most science or technology phenomenon you can think of. Try a search on electronics applet, electronics simulation applet, etc.

Or, if you cannot go to school, I suggest you buy an electronics kit and find relevant theory online. As a kid I started with a 200 in one kit and got a pretty good understanding of electricity and electronics principles.

This may not help you in designing your own HiHi amplifier, but should help you grasp a better understanding of the functions used to build one.

I will try to keep this short...but there are many good websites on electric circuits. When you said "Kirchoff", I wondered if you had read before about Ohm's Law. It is a good place to start.

When you jump into amplifiers first, it will make you dizzy - you must start with something easier. Here are some basics:

Resistors - reduce the flow of electrical current. (they convert excess energy into heat)

Capacitors - delay signals by storing a certain amount of electrons. They are used to filter noise or create intentional delays.

Inductors - sort of the opposite of capacitors...they accelerate electrons. They form the basis of transformers and are often used in radio transmission.

Diodes - pass current going in one direction, block it going the other way.

Transistors - act as "gates", using one signal to switch another on or off. In "analog" circuits, transistors are used as amplifiers...where an RF or audio signal is multiplied by adding in more power from either batteries or a power supply.

Some basic rules:

1. a circuit must provide a complete path for electrons to travel or it won't work...and, in useful circuits, a power source and a "load" (the work that is to be done).

2. e=IR (one way of saying Ohm's Law) Voltage = current * resistance

3. All wires and circuits have a natural resistance...(nothing can carry an infinite amount of current). This fact means that all circuits have a natural frequency response...above and below a certain range of frequencies, they will not respond.

A good place to start understanding circuits is to purchase an "electronics learning lab". There is one at Radio Shack for about $65.00, but many other places supply them. It has basic parts and spring connections so you can try different combinations and see the effects. These learning labs let you work at your own pace, and they usually have a book of experiments designed to teach you...they are a lot of fun.

I don't think it is as easy as that.

I one could explain or understand the functional theory of an audio amplifier in a few paragraphs; then I could have designed my first Photon Torpedo after just a few weeks of work!

A Photon Torpedo thats child's play to build, but it wont work without a Photon Detonator. They are much more complex.

Thanks a lot MR. ELECTROMAGNETIC1...

And thanks you all you friends especially who temp to tell lot about amplifire to me...

I am reading one book on basic electronics also ... n really i dont want to run before learn to walk also... certainly i will learn everything but not without help of you all.... lol

Now my next question is ..

If i play two sound on cd player attached to amplifire ....one is of low frequency and another is of high frequency. Is there two different path the signals will follow and get amplified and reached to woofer and another to tweeter..........??

You all know how to make understand complex things to kids... haha...

Thanks n good luck you all

Vinayak.

What you are referring to is called a "speaker crossover network". It is basically a filter (made from caps &/or inductors and resistors) that will take the signal coming from the amplifier and divide it so the right frequencies go to the right speaker.

You would not want to put those big heavy bass signals into that little tweeter...it would blow up. In the other direction, you would not want to put the high frequency energy into your bass speakers...they are too slow to handle them.

A bad crossover network can ruin the sound or the speakers (with enough power running through) so it is important to look this up in Wikipedia, since there are many types of crossovers. Don't forget that you are probably running in stereo, so there would be a crossover for each set of bass/tweeter speakers.

By the way,Vinayak, I am Ms. Electromagnetic1! (musician with many years experience and a degree in electronics)

Probably you have started with "do it your self kit" available from toys shop for hobyist , you are now curious to know the working ,Knowing ohm`s law , kirchoff`s laws form the building blocks of basic electricity & electronics.you will have to upgrade further by knowing basic components specification, functions , usage and so.you can see this site www.howstuffworks.com , next presume that a given circuit is a factory with PCB And conducting tracks as its infrastructure , each component or in a group as a specialised work force that have asigned task to be performed that is most often Time based and flow of electrons (as voltage, current , frequency form) as processing product(raw , catalyst , finished) than there are components for special support like protection ,stabilisation etc. any way you will have to search it your self you can attain short term courses if availble in your place ,that is right way to learn.

To return to one of your fundamental questions concerning the routes the 'different frequencies' take in an amplifier.

Although the ear can discriminate the notes played together by different instruments, and hear the instruments as separate sound sources, the sound wave input to an amplifier is a fearfully complex waveform generated by adding together all the different fundamental frequencies and overtones frequencies at different volumes.

Although analysis of the waveform (Fourier) can show it can be envisaged as made up of a myriad of sine waves of particular frequencies, the amplifier hasn't read Fourier,so it just takes the spiky mess of an input and amplifies it,subject to its limits of low and high frequencies.

So dont worry about different routes for different frequencies, the whole mess goes though like the Irishmans spitoon contents, but as another erudite correspondent has explained at the output you can filter and route to speakers particular bands of frequencies to suit the capabilities of the speakers.

Get a microphone and couple it up to a scope and try it,you will see the complexity of the input waveform.

MR. OLDENG...

Thank you very much. I get you, means whatever signal given to amplifire as input, it will amplify this signal as per its designed capacity. And after enough amplification signal can be break in different frequecies by crossover circuits... and speaker drivers are supplied with suitable frequecy range, and accordingly different type of speaker driver will play song together and again will generate complex wave of song in the air and our ear will analyze it as different instruments are played in song.

Pls tell me if i m right or wrong... which will help me to know that i m going on right path.

Thanks,

Good luck.

Vinayak.
