and how dangerous is this lithium-6? That it may contaminate the water supply by a leak?

Remember, terrorism isn't about the number of dead. It is psychological warfare.

I note there is no mention of costs: Initial, running and disposal fees..........

Yes, I agree it would be a high priority target too.

But what happens after the 40 years is up?

I don't have a safe big enough to accept that lot....

well if steel mills are any indication of what happens after their life expectancy or profitability is up.

Sell it to China

May be this is called a nuclear reactor because there is a nucleus like a nut in a shell.

But no fission (nor fusion).

Lithium 6 is much too expensive to be used in such a small machine.

Maybe this is a terrorist approach to discredit the company.

I think they're only using the Lithium 6 as a moderator - they didn't mention the fuel.

Add a roach motel for the terrorist, check in but don't check out.

Fix two birds with one stone.

Ask the ex-Soviet countries about the legacy of nuclear batteries.

(FR) FUSION NUCLEAIRE AUTO-CATALYSEE DE LITHIUM-6 ET DE DEUTERIUM A L'AIDE DE PARTICULES ALPHA
Abstract:

(EN) A method and apparatus for nuclear fusion of lithium-6 and deuterium ions at ambient temperature yielding alpha particles and thermal energy. Ion pairs of Li and D are accumulated and densely packed into a metallic lattice, approaching each other closely or combining into LiD molecules. Alpha particles are then emitted into the lattice which have an energy sufficient to cause the nuclei of the Li and D atoms to fuse by compressive interaction of their nuclei within the lattice. Upon fusion, secondary high energy alpha particle are emitted which cause additional fusions and alpha particles emissions. In this manner, a continuous cycle of fusions and high energy alpha particle emissions is initiated resulting in a self-sustaining nuclear fusion chain reaction occurring at or near room temperature.

Just so happens lithium6 and deuterium are the reactants used in H-bombs. I assume that any radiation came from the lithium6 itself, and not through a reaction. Also, it must have failed otherwise...

One more thing, alpha-particles are very low energy. I can't see them doing much. Furthermore, their mean free path is very short.

I think we would all do better to be fitted with our very own personal methane power plant. No more embarrassing elevator rides, unless your power meter was visible to others.
