Computer Powered over Ethernet

04/29/2005 11:34 AM

"UK firm DSP Design has made a PC that gets electric power via a network cable rather than through a wall socket.

The Poet 6000 has a touch screen and DSP expects it to be used in kiosks, at trade shows and other places where laying power cables would take too long, be too expensive or too difficult."

I know that a lot of small devices can be powered over ethernet (PoE), but there is a lot of potential here. I don't think it will help desktop PCs much, but not having to find a wall socket for your laptop could be huge. If only they could find a way to supply wireless power.
