Engineers Without Borders

04/29/2005 12:16 PM

A lot of people have heard about Doctors Without Borders, but there is also an organization called Engineers Without Borders. If you are interested in donating some of your engineering expertise to help build a better world, then you might want to check them out. EWB has 80 projects in 35 countries around the world. EWB's engineering projects include areas such as drinking water supplies, sanitation & waste treatment, structures / construction, renewable energy, agriculture, communication systems and microenterprise. They also have a page set up to organize engineering aid for tsunami reconstruction efforts. I volunteered up a couple of engineers in my office cube for an assignment in the jungles of Kenya next month. They don't know they're signed up yet – I think they will realize when they're on a plane flying over the Sahara.
