How to convert a PC input on a TV to component video

On a typical TV in the USA with a "computer input" (like on a Samsung LNT1953H for instance)- how might it be triggered to accept a component video signal? An adapter from MCM I tested does not work. Any ideas as to a possible trigger lines or sync that must be worked with? I understand DVI and sync lines used with RGB-
