with such technology this would be the perfect time to incorporate intelligence using satnav and local maps to ensure speed limits are observed and control acceleration / braking to maximize energy usage instead of the brick feet that most drivers exhibit, external sensors to prevent collision with slow moving infra-red emitting pedestrians and cyclists and inter-vehicle communication to prevent drivers crashing into drivers and block flow to ensure efficient use of the road

It'll only work on small scales. Infastructure is the key. The cost to build the changeing stations adds greatly to the overall cost.
