Ut system for testing of steel plates

04/10/2008 3:52 PM

We are a manufacturer of steel plates with sizes of wall thickness 1/4 " to 2", and the width of 12-15 ft.

We are looking to purchase a ut system capable of testing lamination in the plate. Please advise us of a system capable of doing this test.

Never heard of "Panaromics"...(Post #1).

Panametrics has joined forces with Olympus NDT ... and, Krautkramer (formerly Krautkramer Branson) has been bought out by GE Inspection Technologies.

Sonatest also manufactures some great equipment, as do a plethora of other companies. Some of these outfits afford custom-manufactured instrumentation to fit any specialized needs.

There are also several manufacturers of pulser-receiver cards that fit PC's, using software that is highly modifiable ... so that you can tailor your instrumentation to fit your own requirements. Multiplexers can provide control for up to 256 (or more) transducers in a single inspection package. This comes-in real handy when you wish to scan large areas at a time!

You should have someone on-staff who is certified in the Ultrasonic Test Method to help you select equipment that will get the job done right, and to provide validation for the testing that is performed.

Best Wishes ~
