I'd love to help you, but I need more information. Where are the datums? In order to inspect runout you need to support the wire at the ends, place an indicator on the part, spin the part and watch the dial indicator and read the max. movement.

In this case, you cannot just place the wire in a V block and try that, because the results would be roundness of the wire, not runout.

So you need to have established datums at both then to support the wire by the datums.

My suggestion, for real, is to go back to the designer and find out the use of the wire, way is runout so important? Would straightness be a more correct call out?

Let us know and we can help.

dear guest,

I have a diagram that shows this which I will forward to you monday morning if you send me your email privately. the way to do this is to click on my name milo above, which will enable you to send me an private email message.

As it is a pdf, i cannot attach it for a post here on CR4.

The basic method for standard camber is a dial indicator between two v blocks; Cantilever is trickier.

You then apply the pythagorean theorem to calculate the deviation from theoretical straaightness.

I'll look for your email.
