what is the formula to calculate equivalent span?

Is this an electrical question? What do you mean by equivalent span? Equivalent to what? State your question properly if you want to receive a useful answer.

Equivalent span is not distance between the two towers, if suppose one section cotains 10 spans means all are not the same length, to findout the average olden days they used sum of all spans divevd by no of spans but now there is formula that is I want to know.

Normal span is used to determine and compare the span lengths obtainable by using structures of different heights.It is given By

Normal Span in meters= C√(P-L)/DΧ0.3048 where P= ht of conductor support for which normal span is to be calculated,L =Conductor Clearence above ground level , C +ruling span in meters , D= conductor sag at ruling span C in metres

Ruling span for any line having spans l1, l2 l3 --Ln is =√Cube Of sum of spans -Ln divided by sum of span.Rule of thumb is average of all span +2/3 of difference between max and min span in the line.There is a lot more to explain but space and other constraints do not permit me to elaborate .Hope this is useful.best wishes.
