Cross Reference of US and European standards for Aluminum castings

05/01/2008 2:12 PM

I have couple of European standards and looking for corresponding U.S standards. Is there any search engine available to find cross reference of specifications:

EN 1706, EN 1780-1, EN 1780-2, EN 10002-1, EN 1371-1, ISO 10042, EN 22768-2, EN 10204.

All these specifications are related with chemistry &mechanical propeties, testing and inspection of aluminum sand casting. Please help me i have to review the requirements for our European customer.

ASM International (www.asminternational.org) publishes international material standards cross-references (as does The Aluminum Association) but you might also try www.matweb.com and search on the European standards numbers. That should return the UNS Alloy equivalents. A matweb search on EN 1706, for example, returns die casting alloys 384.0-F and 413.0-F.

Hi,

Generally speaking, it's difficult to compare Euronorms (EN) with ASTM or other US standard point by point. For aluminum alloys, the designation adopted by EN standards are the same used in US derived from Aluminum Association. But the standards you've listed deal with different aspects:

EN 1706 is for chemical composition and mechanical properties of cast aluminum alloys.

EN 1780 deals with numeric and symbolic designations of ingots for remelt.

EN 10002-1 is for room temperature tensile test method

EN 1371 deal with dye penetrant test of castings (part 1 for sand castings and part 2 for "lost wax" castings)

EN 10042 is for qualification of imperfections in aluminum welds (This is equal to ISO 10042).

EN 22768 is for geometric tolerances (linear and angular) and is equal to ISO 2768

EN 10024 is for designation of material certificate types. In US is common to ask for a "certificate of compliance" or a "certified material test report". EN gives more classes depending on who issues the certificate and who witness the tests.

Perhaps with the specific alloy designation I could give you more information.

Best regards
