PN numbers vs. valve class in asme standard

05/10/2008 2:15 PM

HI all there

What is the relatinship between PN number (ex. PN 10 , 16 , 25 ,...)and pressure temperature rating of valves in asme?In other word how could we find equivalent of a butterfly valve PN 25 in asme code(class...)?

Dear moheshams,

Reply to your inqueries:

1. I will be so grateful if you give me the reference of the table.

The reference is Flanges - Ratings in Classes and Pressure Numbers (PN)

2. If I find a valve in which written for example ASME class 300 and this valve is butt weld type could I apply your table to choose another valve by PN and equivalent DN?

Yes. (Note: PN = Pressure Number = equivalent to class or rating, where DN denotes to NPS).

3. If you can introduce a reference to study about this subject I will thank you.

Sure, but I have ASME codes only, and ASME B16.5 for flanges and flanged fittings is a good reference to find the flanges dimensions and pressure-temp. ratings.

DEAR SIR,

THE TABLE GIVEN BY YOU IS ABSOLUTLY CORRECT. I FOUND THESE EQUIVALANT PN TO ASME CLASS ARE GIVEN/USED IN CANDIAN STANDARD 'CSA'AND FFRENCH STANDARD 'NFE'. AS THEY HAVE ADOPED ASME CLASS FLANGES IN THERE STANDARD. NARMALLY PN ARE10,16,25,40,63,100,160 AND SO ON.GIVEN IN DIN AND EN STANDARD. NOW FOR ALL EUROP FLANGE STANDARD IS ' EN 1092-1:2007'.

THANK YOU.
