Silicone Beam Vulcanization System

05/23/2008 11:43 AM

Silicone Beam Cure Process. I have heard that this is the newest technology to get silicone rubber vulcanized. Can some one explain to me how is this process?

I am familiar with the peroxide cure and platinum cure systems. I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of the new system. Thanks.

Are you refering to electron beam cure?

I did a brief search as it is something I deal with (curing of silicone) only we still use a heated press and post cure oven. We require the post cure oven to drive off the catalysts left after the initial cure, if we don't do this, remaining catalysts can cause reversion.

Perhaps this new method will work faster? Will eliminate the need for post cure? Will properly cure thicker materials? Reduce outgassing?

A quick patent search on this might better answer your question. Interesting stuff!
