21st century energy sources

05/09/2005 9:56 AM

Livescience.com has an interactive site detailing the top ten energy sources for the 21st century. It's rather basic in terms of the information that is presented, but their placement of certain technologies at or near the top is surprising.

For those of you with slow connections.

Here is the list for people who didn't want wait for it to load :

10) Solar
9) Coal
8) Wind
7) Petroleum
6) Biomass
5) Hydroelectric
4) Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion
3) Nuclear
2) Fuel Cells
1) Antimatter
No I'm not kidding Antimatter made the list. Not sure how they think they can make energy out of it, but it's defiantly cool.

Fuel Cells should make the top 10 list for most overhyped technologies along with the space elevator, nanotechnology (what does that even mean?), and last but not least, the segway.

At least I can see a fuel cell in operation. I have no idea how an antimatter engine would even work...
In the long run my money is on solar.

If I had to bet, I'd bet on nuclear fusion, though I agree solar energy could help a lot.
