	Dear All I have a second hand Honda generator 220V, 5KVA for domestic use. If I run the generator with 90% load, it consumes almost 2.75liter petrol in one hour. Most of the time the generator run with 30% load and some time with 90% load. I want to know after what period I should change its engine oil as generator doesn't have any tantalizer counter. Please help me out.

	Hello Signode I've never before heard of a "Tantalizer Counter", but I have heard of an Hourmeter. You are asking us to select a figure which is not possible, from the information you give. By far the easiest way, is to fit an electric Hourmeter to your generator. This can run from the output power plug or connection, if you don't want to interfere with the Honda unit wiring. That way, every time the generator runs, that electric Hourmeter is going to "tick over", and you will know from your owner's Manual, how often that crankcase oil should be changed, and other maintenance such as air filter replacement, etc. The above electric Hourmeters are typical ones, which cost only about $20. 	Hello Sparky, Neither i have heard of Hinda generator...but to be fair to members/guests we have to give some credibility to the fact that not all forum members/guests are fluent in English, and it is not even the language they speak..!! There can be typos, and lack of proper framing and can make the question look arrogant. One example is " Give me the software for Generator size calculation?" Hinda was Honda,...and Tantaliser was actually totaliser...which you rightly referred as Hourmeter. The point i am trying to make here is, that it is high time we see the idea and not the presentation, which many seem to lack in an international forum like this. Picture this....if all the above is asked in Urdu or Arabic or Maori....we would be struggling to even to decipher it...leave alone answering/ridiculing it... I have seen this happening quite a lot...instead of focussing on the problem/issue there is a tendency to go tangential ....on typos, framing, etc etc..knowing well that that is a limitation to many a members. Just my two cents..no disrespect to anyone. Now, Signode, coming to the question,...hourmeter wil give the total hours run and the Honda Manual will give the hours after which preventive maintenence is required. 	Chatapillar I don't think Sparkstation meant anything by his comments. I wasn't sure what Signode meant by Tanlizer counter myself. 	There are many variables and many trains of thought out there on this. HOWEVER one is constant, your oil can not be too new or too clean. Once a week would not hurt your bank account and would insure your engine is clean and no gum is being built up. __________________ Life isnt about how you survived the storm... 	It all depends. I don't know what the Hinda or Honda manuals say as I have never owned one. However, the few manuals for Briggs and Stratton refer to operating environment and depending on dirt and heat will recommend service around 10 hours operation, 25 hours operation 50 hours operation, or once a season. A lot depends on oil filtration, dirt, hot operation, grade of oil, etc. etc. Look at your dipstick when oil is clean, and frequently as you use the generator. As you watch the oil discolor and load up with carbon and dirt, you will get a "feel" when the oil should be changed. Also check the Honda web site. 	Thanks for all about value able comments. I am sorry for mistaking in spelling. The word is HONDA not Hinda and TOTALISER not Tentaliser.
