wood pellet machine

07/20/2008 7:38 AM

we have recently purchased a wood pelleting machine that has a stainless steel die and four free wheeling rollers that are fixed to the door and when the door is shut can be ajusted to give a gap for forceing the sawdust through the die.

i would be gratefull if some one who has knowlege of this type of m/c can tell me how to set the rollers. are they all set the same gap or dercreaseing around the drum

the feed is via a srew that goes trough the door i beleive they are also used for animal feed pelllets thanks

Don't you think you are knocking at the wrong doors!

When you recently purchased a wood pelleting machine you must have received both soft & hard copies of operational instructions , Maintenance & Trouble-shooting ( you buy a simple cell - you get this).

i would be gratefull if some one who has knowlege of this type of m/c can tell me how to set the rollers. are they all set the same gap or dercreaseing around the drum.

Why are you not asking this question from the Manufaturer? Who will have more knowledge then them?

thanks for your response but the machine was brought second hand and did not come with a manual the company who made the m/c has long since folded

wood pellets use the lignin in wood to act as a binder. The dust needs to be below a certain concentration of water. Some woods make better pellets than others.

You might need to blend some or use higher pressures.

some makers here might have websites and dowloadable manuals etc.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=%22wood+pellet%22+%2Bextruder&btnG=Search

Failing that, start at a low pressure and increase feed until you get the pellet you want. buy some pellets made by others and sold as a guide.

Why did they sell the machine?

Search website Ali Baba. There are hundreds of Chinese makeing & selling these machines, try downloading a catalog from their site.

As a W.A.G. "wild a$$ guess" to the way it would work the rollers gap would decrease to force the sawdust through the die to make the pellets other wise the drum would spin and nothing would go through.

Just my thoughts on the operation.

andy thanks for your reply an i agree this makes sense i have spoken to a company

who say that all the rollers are set at the same distance from the rotateing drum.if this is the case the other 3 rollers as far as i can think are not doing any thing as there is no way of the saw dust geting to the other rollers the sawdust is fed via a screw to the centre of the drum the rollers are positioned at 7 10 2 and 4 oclock and the sawdust i presume would fall to the bottom of the drum and come into contact with the roller at severn oclock first the only other way of it reaching the other rollers is to flood the drum unless there is something missing to distribute the sawdust inside

most machines i have looked at only have two rollers

Wood pellets need a binder to hold them together, many different ones are used, here in Germany for example it has to be a flour from a certain grain (I can probably find out which if needed), it is added with a small amount of water (tiny amount) and under strong pressure it "glues" the pellets together.

I believe in another (old) CR4 blog, that in the USA, binders from the petroleum industry are sometimes used, quite legally.....but it is laughable as this is NOT a renewable resource!!!

Who is the manufacter. You could try calling CPM, they are one of the manufacturers of pellet mills. They have a website, but not much info.

In Germany they use either Rye or Maiz flour to bind the pellets when Lignin(?) is either not in the wood, or in too low a percentage.
